Josh Weathers – ‘When You Honky Tonk’ – Review

Josh Weathers’ new song “When You Honky Tonk” was written by Josh Weathers, Will Jones, and Tommy Cecil.

A song that portrays the life of a habitual Honky Tonk dweller and all the antics he gets up to.

Although a good premise, there are a lot of Honky Tonk songs out there and sadly this one isnt at the top of the tree,

Saying that, its not a bad song, its just not amazing. I would listen to it again, but its not an ear worm or a song that captivates me to listen on repeat.

Its a story told quite well (based loosely on a true story about Josh’s cousin) and there are little adages like when the protagonist gets slugged for approaching the wrong girl, again written in quite well and a little amusing but just not enough to listen a lot.

It has a feel of somewhere between a song you would expect to hear in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and the 1950’s with a bit of a Rock n Roll feel yet bouncy and fun like in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Musically the song is good, lyrically its ok but production needs a bit of attention.

There is too much top end which can on occasions make the song a little hard to listen to. There is a love version on line that sounds better than the single as it has more depth and lett top end.
