Biddy Ronelle – D.R.I.N.K

If you haven’t heard of Biddy Ronelle then you have missed a great artist.

Biddy hails from Chesterfield in the UK and has been bumping around the country scene in the UK for some time.

Of course, lockdowns and Covid have played havoc with all artists around the globe and for Biddy, it was no different.

She has, however, spent her time wisely and written, as well as recorded, a new song caller D.R.I.N.K.

As with a lot of Biddy’s songs, D.R.I.N.K is a country song teamed with a rocky feel, giving you a product that will get you dancing to the beat.

The intro to the song is the sound of a crowded bar, glasses clinking and lots of background chatter. This gently leads you into the song with an increasing volume, finally hitting you with a rocky guitar which is exhilarating and powerful.

Biddy’s vocals come in at around 21 seconds and, as with the guitar, build to a powerful yet harmonious tone.  The melody in places, has the feel of a tune that feels familiar, yet I am unable to put my finger on exactly what it is.

This could just be very clever writing by Biddy, with a sound that reminds us of something we think we know, yet don’t.

When the tune changes just before the chorus, you are not too sure if its right, but it gives you a slight respite just before the chorus hits you and has your foot tapping at the speed of light.

The only slight criticism I would have is that the word “ON” in used twice in very quick succession.

With that minor thing disregarded, Biddy has turned out an incredibly good song, which will get you singing the chorus at the top of your voice when at a gig and your fingers drumming to the beat when listening at home or in the car.

All in all, it is a great feel-good song as we come out of the winter lockdowns and enter what we hope will be a great, unrestricted summer.
