Diamonds & Whiskey “Walk Hard” Review

Diamonds & Whiskey ‘Walk Hard

Review By Chad J Country (Nashville Worldwide)

Diamonds and Whiskey are an award-winning country rock band based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The lead vocalist is Jennifer Lauren, with back-up vocals from the rest of the group, but its Jennifer’s voice, with classical training, which is the real powerhouse. The band has a rocky feel with hints of AC/DC and early Miranda Lambert (Kerosene) blazing through but still retaining that country feel.

Diamonds & Whiskey - Walk Hard

I can only assume that the background of the band is one of a rockier set than a lot country acts at present. As such the band is a great cross-over group with the ability to please both sides of the fence. Of course, the purists on either side will say that it’s a sheep in wolves clothing, but for my money it’s a good fit in both camps.

Their latest release ‘Walk Hard’ fits into the country rock genre perfectly!

Starting softly with, I would even say, a slightly Irish influence, it quickly punches into a full-blown rock country track which lasts the duration of the song.

In places Jennifer’s voice has a slight resemblance to Kelly Johnson from Girls School, with a gravelly undertone but always perfectly in tune and delivering a full-bodied experience.

The song is well put together and a tune to play when you need a driving song for the country lanes; (not for when you’re going slow). The guitar, tempo and power of Jennifer’s vocals will make you ease the pedal down without even realising it. The lyrics are ok but could have done with a bit more work, the chorus repeats a fair bit but doesn’t detract from the overall product.

At only 3:04 long, it is quite a short song, even by country music standards, it will however get your blood pressure elevated quite enough in that time.

Diamonds and Whiskey are a band I hope will pop over the pond soon, so we in the UK get a chance to see them. From the YouTube videos I have seen of the band they put on a great show.
